Flight delay rights – Your compensation!
Air passengers in the EU are particularly protected by the air passenger rights Regulation 261/04. All flights departing within the EU are covered. If you take off outside the EU, you are entitled if you fly with a European airline. To be entitled to compensation in the event of a flight delay, your flight must have a delay of more than 3 hours. Only the time of arrival is decisive. The arrival time is the time when the aircraft doors open for the first time.
Flight delayed: Does the airline have to provide me with free food and drinks?
In addition to the flat-rate compensation, the airline must provide passengers with sufficient food and drink in the event of a flight cancellation or delay. This applies irrespective of the reason for the delay or cancellation and already from a delay of 2 hours. If the flight does not take place until the next day, the airline must provide the passenger with a hotel free of charge. Ask for the additional service at the information desk. If the airline does not provide this service, you can claim back the costs incurred.
Flight Cancellation – Your compensation!
„If my flight is cancelled, do I get a refund?” It is regulated by the EU Regulation Nr. 261/2004. According to this rule air passengers are entitled to a ticket refund or a replacement flight. And of course there are cases when passengers are entitled to a flight cancellation compensation.

When is a claim for compensation excluded?
The airline does not have to pay compensation in the event of a flight delay or cancellation if exceptional circumstances were responsible. These are reasons beyond the airline’s control and for which it is not responsible. These include strikes by air traffic control or airport staff, bad weather, snowfall, storms, bird strikes, airspace closures or terrorist threats. Even if no compensation is payable in such cases. The airline must still provide assistance.

When will I receive compensation for flight cancellation or delay?

Canceled flight: the airline has informed you of the flight cancellation less than 14 days in advance The compensation is calculated on the basis of the flight route, not the ticket price. Delayed flight: The arrival time of the delayed flight is important for your claim for compensation. You have a right to compensation if the delay exceeds 3 hours at your destination. The compensation also applies to package tours and business trips. If there is a flight delay at departure, you can also claim rights. You are entitled to drinks and food (from 2 hours of departure delay), cancellation of the flight including ticket reimbursement (from 5 hours) or hotel accommodation (departure the following day).
Missed connecting flight: If you miss your connecting flight due to a delayed flight and thus reach your destination with a delay of more than 3 hours, you are entitled to the same compensation as for a normal flight delay.
Overbooked flight: If you do not get a seat on board due to an overbooking, this counts as denied boarding. You will therefore be entitled to the same compensation as for a flight delay or cancellation.
Long waiting times: What are my rights?
As a rule, the airline or the tour operator will inform you in advance about a flight cancellation. If the relevant information is given less than 14 days in advance, there is usually a right to compensation.
If there are long waiting times due to a suddenly cancelled or delayed flight, the airline must offer appropriate care services and pay for the care. This also applies to long waiting times due to a missed connecting flight. If the replacement flight does not take off until the following day, the airline must also pay for the costs of overnight accommodation and transfer.
